Interesting facts related to games.

Good morning\afternoon\evening\night StopGame! I’ve been wanting to write about something for a long time, and now I finally got around to it.
So, I present to your attention 13 facts that I hope you will like and find interesting. Let’s go!

1) Final Fantasy.

Almost everyone who has played and plays games has heard about a game called Final Fantasy. And probably someone was interested in the question why the game is called that. After all, she has not 1, not 2, but as many as 14 (almost 15) numbered parts! It’s me who is silent about non-number numbers. So why Final Fantasy?? The thing is that Square (now Square Enix) had commercial problems with their games Rad Racer and World Runner 3D. They sold very poorly and there was no money left at all. Many workers left. Then Hironobu Sakaguchi came to the head and said: “We must try again, take our last breath.”. And when the game was almost ready, they came up with a very symbolic name for it – Final Fantasy, because it was believed that this would be their last game. And the game, by the way, was released in 1987(!) and laid the foundation not only for one of the most recognizable and best-selling games, but also for an entire culture (movies, manga, magazines, etc.).d.)

2) Games can save lives!

And not in the sense that instead of going out into the street, where you could be hit by a car, maimed by some gopnik or the like, you will stay at home to play and everything will be fine.

Here I will give 2 cases. The first happened to a 12-year-old Norwegian who really loved playing the game World of Warcraft. He and his sister went for a walk in the forest (not a very good idea). And then along the way they came across a real moose! The moose began to sharpen its antlers on his sister, but the guy was not taken aback, took a stick, and began to “overaggressive” the moose. He did it. The elk lagged behind his sister, and she was able to get away, but the boy himself had nothing to do, because you can’t run away from the elk, and then he decided to use the ability that hunters get at level 30 called “Feign Death”. The trick is that you just pretend to be dead and that’s it (but the point is that he learned this from a computer game). When the guy did this, the moose just came up to him, sniffed him, and left, losing all interest. Later the boy was recognized as a hero (seriously, that’s what it said in the article).

The second case occurred in the city of Auckland. On this day, a 24-year-old American (I couldn’t find his name, sorry) spent time playing a game (playing a console, apparently). After some time, an unknown man broke into his house with the intention of robbing him. The owner of the house, without hesitation, grabbed the game controller, which looked like a machine gun, and pointed it at the robber. He, unable to distinguish a toy from a real weapon, got scared and froze in place until the police arrived.

3) The smell… of football?

Another FIFA was released in 2001, but it turned out to be unforgettable. If you rub the disc, it takes on the smell of grass. This “trick” was only available on licensed discs.

4) Devil May Cry https://lucky-vip-casino.co.uk/games/ is the younger brother of Resident Evil.

The fact is that initially DMC was the 4th part of Resident Evil (that is, it should have been called that, Resident Evil 4). During the development of the game, many elements were added to it that did not correspond to the game genre (survival-horror), but since a lot of new material had been developed, it was decided not to throw it away. So all those improvements were transferred to the new game, which was later called Devil May Cry. Just sit and think about how a survival-horror about zombies (although they are no longer such since part 4) can turn into a slasher about demons. Although in earlier versions of RE 4 (i.e. RE 3.5) there were ghosts and other paranormal devilry.

5) Dialogue is important.

Dialogue, especially in RPGs, is very important, so it takes a lot of time and space. For example, in TES IV: Oblivion, dialogues take up half the disk (that’s about 2.7 gigabytes).

And in Deus Ex an entire book (in parts, of course) by Gilbert Chesterton (G.K. Chesterton) "The Man Who Was Thursday".

6) A game that could get you jailed.

Rockstar is known to many for its amazing games. GTA, LA Noir, Midnight Club, Red Dead Redemption, and of course Manhunt. The latter is prohibited in many countries and it is because of it that you can be imprisoned. Due to its excessive cruelty, it is banned in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and of course China (they generally censor violent games harshly, pardon the pun). You will only be held criminally liable in New Zealand.

7) Jean Claude Van Dam could become one of the heroes of Mortal Kombat

The thing is that one of the characters was supposed to be played by Jean Claude Van Damme (in the game), but this did not happen, since he worked with another company that made the game for Sega, but the game was never released. As a result, instead of Van Dam, they put another character – Johnny Cage, played by Daniel Pesina. He was also the prototype for Scorpio and Reptile (Meaning MK 2). Here he is, in fact.

8) How can we make our creatures more disgusting??

This is exactly the question the guys from Electronic Arts asked themselves when creating a game called Dead Space. In addition to watching hundreds of horror films, they also studied photographs of car accident victims! Terrible idea – terrible result (just right for their game)

The Resident Evil 2 commercial (by the way, my favorite part) was directed by George Romero, who directed the horror classic Night of the Living Dead. The amount spent on a 4-minute commercial ($1,500,000) far exceeded the cost of developing the game itself. But the game still received good reviews from various critics. Unfortunately, out of all 4 minutes of the video, I could only find this.

10) Without thinking for a long time.
.
The face from one of the greatest (I’m not afraid of this word) games was copied from its creator. And, yes, I’m talking about Sam Lake, the creator and writer of the Max Payne series of games.
Note: his face was only used in the first part of the game.

11) Everything for the sake of art.

During the entire development of the game Forza Motorsport 2, the development team received 41 fines for speeding, and two of them even decided to drive.

12) Everything has a limit.

Everything has an end, even Pac-Man. The game ends at 3,333,360 points. As I understand it, this is how the game ends (picture). Or maybe it’s just a bug. Actually, I didn’t find a picture with the record, sorry. But a fact is a fact.

In 2003, the game Forbidden Siren (sometimes just Siren) was released. The point is that the commercial for this game (it was shown in Japan) was based on the canon of Japanese horror films (Something like “The Ring”). Twitched bodies of humanoids, torn out eyes. And all this was shown on TV. They stopped showing it due to numerous requests from parents, since it had a bad (and there’s no arguing about it) influence on their children.
